Objectives
The DoD customer engaged Avenir’s staff to assist with managing their force readiness data. The data were not useful and the customer could not make data-based decisions. The costs of this were large. The customer was looking for a way to manage their data, to analyze the data in real time and to use predictive analytics and machine learning models to predict changes and optimize resources. The client was also looking to use resources more effectively and potentially reduce costs. The main concern was having access to real-time readiness data.

Solution
Avenir’s staff maintained a database with multiple terabytes of data, processed and analyzed 30 data sources for the Department of Defense (DoD) customer. Avenir’s staff managed data governance, cleansed and prepared data, and managed the data architecture. Avenir’s staff developed a data analytics dashboard and reporting for the DoD customer.
Avenir’s staff also developed and trained models and predictive analytics to help with force readiness and optimization of resources. The result was that the customer had access to a dashboard that showed force readiness data in real time, the customer was able to make better data-driven decisions to optimize resources. This also resulted in a $300 million reduction in costs over the life of the contract.
